Bath House Extension

Enhancing a grand period townhouse in Bath was the aim for this project. For this family the kitchen didn’t match up to the rest of the house. Tucked away at the rear of the house, it was close to the garden and the southern sun but lacked any direct connection.

Extending at the rear to form a new open-plan kitchen/dining area, immediately enhanced the flow and light quality of the space. A fresh timber-clad box extension furthers the current feel of the scheme, juxtaposing with the existing house.

The project has good sustainability credentials in the reuse of the shell of the existing extension and utilising a new timber frame with high levels of insulation. The over hang ensures the interior doesn’t over heat in the summer and allows the winter sun to warm up the inside when it’s lower in the sky.
